This model is powered by a 9V battery, providing continuous protection, even during power outages. This easy-to-install unit includes a test button to verify the detection electronics are working as intended. Install UL listed smoke alarms on every floor of your home, in hallways, inside bedrooms, and outside of sleeping areas and replace smoke alarms every 10 years. I've had my alarm for 5 years. Its principal benefit is its tiny size, specially these days exactly where every bedroom is supposed to have its own smoke detector. It gets decent battery life as well, I only had to replace the battery it came with just once. Having said that I did have a predicament with false alarms due to dust developing up inside of it. The reality that the room has a ceiling fan did not aid. This unit is tough to clean inside. The compact slots in the front of the unit go to the horn, not the ionization detector. A vacuum cleaner will not be in a position to throughly suck up the dust that will eventually construct up inside the front cover. There front cover is not meant to be removable.
If you've got pets and/or a ceiling fan then, maybe a larger unit with lots of slots for uncomplicated vacuuming would be much better.
