Consumer Critiques
So far, this system has met all of my expectations ... and extra. It was uncomplicated to set up and it is recording 24/7 video for us with no problems. I am really impressed with how Swann has created this such a complete, prepared to go, technique. I had two cameras recording and getting displayed on the Tv within 20 minutes of opening the box. Of course I had not yet routed the wiring however for correct camera placement and adequately hiding of the wires. Note, this is by far the most time consuming and frustrating element to setting up a security program, but that is not the fault of this method. (For allot a lot more money you can acquire a wireless method.)
The only unfavorable I have is the ability to configure the process so that I can achieve remote monitoring, ie a iphone or ipad. The matter is that the Mac Airport Extreme Router does not assistance the UpNP interface that this system calls for. Swann's documentation says that there is alternate hope, but it appears fairly complicated (they even say this) and I feel beyond my IT/network capability. I hope to figure it out, but it is not mission vital.
On the very good side, the night vision overall performance is particularly very good, the day light efficiency is awesome, the 4 camera display on the Television or computer monitor is terrific, and the program settings configurability is quite substantial. Example, instead of recording at 30 fps I changed it to 1 fps so to save tough drive space and thus be in a position to capture countless additional days of history before it begins more than-writing old data. I did try the motion detection feature. It seemed to operate nicely, but I've opted for 27/7 capture at 1 fps. The capacity to critique history is quite slick and rather easy to fully understand. The remote is a bit clumsy, but employing the mouse is incredibly efficient.
Summary: I am extremely pleased to be in a four camera, night vision, 500 GB DVR, continuous recording surveillance method for $250.
I'd say the only point to watch out for is if you definitely require "smart telephone" viewing that you prepare for difficult IT/Network tinkering. Perhaps it will be painless on a UpNP capable router.
Item: Three STARS
Assuming that we get the two damaged cameras back with no additional issues (see customer service), the system is not bad deal general, but not really a good deal either. The set up directions are clear and the included wiring is sufficient for what most people will need to have. The computer software is a bit clunky and we are still playing about with it, it operates albeit less cleanly than you'd like. Reviewing video is a chore unless you have a precise time in thoughts. The cameras seem to be an older model camera. The ones that are not defective appear to work fine. If all of the cameras had come in operating correctly, it would be closer to a 3.5 star technique.
Client SERVICE: INCOMPLETE (BUT SO FAR DISAPPOINTING)
We tested all of the wires and gear just before operating any wires. Which was a excellent thing because 1 of the cameras was DOA. So we contacted client service to set up a replacement.(The instructions clearly tell you not to return to the store, but to make contact with customer service-I now which we had just re-boxed and completed a return by way of Amazon.) They told us they would send us an RMA to return the defective camera, and to go ahead and set up the others. So we did.
We had to call them back to get an RMA mainly because they didn't send 1 as promised. Then when we took it in to get it returned and realized they did not give us a shipping label. Upon additional review they call for that the Buyer pays for return shipping until it is 'proven' that you purchased the item less than 30 days ago. Just as we get prepared to send it in, a second camera fails. So now we are down two out of three. We are now past the 30 days and nonetheless have not received the replacements.
